About

The music of Madli Marje Gildemann (also known as Madli Marje Sink) is inspired and influenced by her interest in biological processes. It arises from the attempt to make these processes perceptible through sound, creating unique soundscapes.

She has written music for a big variety of ensembles, orchestras and also theatre, dance, animation and sound installations.

Recent commissions have led to collaborations with Klangforum Wien, Mondrian Ensemble, Adelphi String Quartet, Ensemble Synchronos, Estonian Percussion Quartet, Ensemble Synaesthesis, Sinfonietta Rīga, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Cyberstudio, Ensemble U: and others.

Her music has been performed in various festivals, such as the ORF Musikprotokoll Festival, Estonian Music Days, Baltic Music Days, ISCM World Music Days in South-Africa, Lucerne Festival, Bern Music Festival, Al(t)chemie Festival, AFEKT Festival, Classical NEXT Showcase and others.

In 2022 she won the 2nd prize at the International Rostrum of Composers in Palermo, Sicily, in the young composers’ category with her piece “Transpiration”. She also received the ISCM Young Composer Prize in Cape Town, South Africa in 2023 for her piece “Osmosis”, which was performed at the annual ISCM World Music Days. The same year her piece “Transpiration” was also nominated for the Prince Pierre of Monaco Musical Prize. In 2024 she was the winner of the LHV composition prize, which she received for her piece “Nocturnal Migrants”.
